What is BDeev?BDeev was conceived to be a community-created directory of resources and information about health, healthcare and tangentially related issues and content. Whether it stays that way depends on the community of people adding the content to the site. Why did you create BDeev? In the summer of 2006 our daughter was born with a number of medical issues. As of the summer of 2008, she still has a number of medical and developmental issues including hearing loss in both ears, a tracheotomy, a g-tube with fundoplication and missing semicircular canals just to name a few. Needless to say, the past two years have found our family searching for any and all resources we can use to help our daughter develop and thrive. Whether it is different therapy methods to aid in her development, advocacy organizations to help traverse the red tape of insurance and state programs, or support groups for a variety of conditions, we have spent a lot of time and effort to find the information and resources. However, we are not alone. Families throughout the country and the world have the same issues and must resolve the same problems. We have been lucky enough to have received help from a number of friends, family members and acquaintances as well as help others. BDeev came out of this sense of community and the hope is others can be helped by the knowledge that we collect. What types of content can I add to BDeev? There are two basic page types: Wiki Info Pages and Wiki Resource Pages. Both registered and anonymous users to the site may add new pages or edit current pages. A complete revision history is kept on each page and only the site administrator has the ability to permanently delete a page. There is also a talk page for each article where both registered and anonymous users are encouraged to comment on their personal experience related to the content. We hope users will keep the actual content page objective and to post more subjective information on the talk page. Wiki Info PagesWiki Info Pages consist of content that provides background information on a variety of subjects. It could describe a service that is common to multiple resources, a method of utilizing a piece of equipment, or be used to define unknown or confusing terms that are found in medicine, education or insurance as some examples. The information can be specific to a particular condition or illness or general enough for a variety of people. If you have acquired a particular expertise, please add the relevant information from your experience and knowledge. Really anything information you think others can use is applicable. For example, my wife wrote a page on how to dye trach ties. Wiki Resource PagesWiki Resource Pages consist of content that describes a specific service provider, their contact information, their geographical coverage area (e.g. international versus local) and a description of the services they provide. Resources can range from large organizations to a single service provider specializing in a particular field. These resources can be a physical organization or a website or online support group. If you feel a resource you know about may help others, please add it. How do I create a page?Go to the Create Content page and select either Wiki Info Page or Wiki Resource Page. Once on the appropriate page there are three areas that are common to both page types:
Wiki Resource Pages also contain contact information and coverage area fields. How do I edit a page? From the actual page you wish to edit, click the Edit link at the top of a content page, next to the content’s title. This will take you to a prepopulated Wiki Info Page or Wiki Resource Page, depending on the page you wish to edit. You can then add and revise any of the content of the page. All revisions are stored and you can easily revert to an older version of the content utilizing the Revisions link. How do I view changes to the content of a page? All revisions are stored and can be viewed and compared to each other by selecting the Revisions link at the top of a content page, next to the content’s title. Differences can be compared between any two revisions (they do not have to be in succession) and you can revert to a specific revision by selecting that revision’s revert link. What would cause a page to be deleted?Primarily pages reported or determined by other means to be spam will be deleted or reverted back to the original content. Note: If the site becomes overwhelmed by spam, BDeev will be forced to require only registered users to add content and possibly comments. Other pages are at the discretion of the site owner and usually based upon the related policies of BDeev that are linked on the bottom of every page. I have another question that I’d like answered. Please add your question to the comments section and we will answer them as soon as possible. |
